Advantages: Great book, film made based on the book.

Disadvantages: Too much detail in places related to the races.

Laura Hillenbrand - Seabiscuit
This is a non-fiction book published in 2001 about the thoroughbred race horse Seabiscuit, this was then later on made into an an award winning film. As i said in my other book reviews i like a good book thats converted into a film with great success and this is no exception.

I personally found it very easy to get intoand i was soon absorbed in the story. However, if you're not interested in race-times and pedigrees, then you would probably find this book very boring....If this is the case just watch the film instead because its an enjoyable film for everyone and in some cases not as dull as some see the book. The book is set during the great depression, this provides an interesting background to the story.

The main character is Seabiscuit, who is a badly bred racehorse with bad legs, the horse is forced to race and starts to become more and more badly tempered. He never wins but his life is transformed by three men. Charles Howard is a rich business-man,He decides to buy Seabiscuit. Tom Smith is Seabiscuit's trainer, and he must teach the horse to have a will to win, and restore the competitive instinct. He restores Seabiscuit to the horse he used to be and the bad-temperedness is lost and then finally there is the jockey, Red Pollard who loves Seabiscuit and knows exactly how the horse acts and likes to run etc.

Brilliant book once again, its these sort of compelling books that make me read so much of the time, this really does deserve a good review and i was suprised no one had made one as of yet.

Summary: I would recommend this book to many, but if you dont like the style dont give up see the film.
