Advantages: Its a giggle from beginning to end
Disadvantages: Its not very challenging
The following is a review of The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella. I wanted to write a review of this because I really enjoyed it. So what made me buy it, well the truthful answer is I didn't, it was free with a magazine, mind you it probably influenced my choice of magazine, as I tend to buy a different one every month and always buy the one with the best free gift. Anyway I digress on with my first book review.
Plot/Outline
This is the story of Rebecca (Becky) Bloomwood and her addiction to shopping. She shops all the time and she loves clothes. In fact she can tell you how much every item she is wearing cost and where she bought it. Her parents and friends all think she has a wonderful life, but Becky has a secret she's not telling anyone. She is in debt and she can't stop shopping, and its getting worse. Can she face up to her situation and cut
back or make more money to pay off her debts.
This is a really amusing tale about a girl who has 2 lives the every day life that she pretends doesn't exist and her dream life in which she can buy all the expensive clothes and make up she likes and has no debts. There are also the amusing lies she tells in order to avoid seeing her Bank manager and avoid paying off her debts. The book also includes the letters sent to her from the bank and from her Visa card.
Characters
Well the main character of course is Becky Bloomwood, a 25 year old journalism Graduate, who is working for Sucessful Saving Magazine as a Financial Journalist. Its not what she wanted to do, it's just something she drifted into. What defines Becky? her addiction to shopping maybe.
Then there's Suze her Flat mate who owns the Flat they Live in Fulham and Suze's Cousins Tarquin and Fenella. Then there's Elly her friend who is also a Financial Journalist, who she has a giggle with in the back row at press Conferences. The other main character would be Luke Brandon who owes a PR company and Organizes Press Conferences for his clients. There are other Characters, of course, but I don't want to tell you the whole story, I'll let you read it for yourself.
Style
This book is a piece of modern fiction and is very amusing. It is the first book written by Sophie Kinsella. It is written in the first person and tells you of Becky's life and dreams in her own words. There are lots of amusing incidents and you can imagine a lot of these things happening in your own life. It's a very easy book to read in fact I managed to finish it in two days. I don't usually buy Modern fiction as they are very easy to read and I finish them too quickly, I usually like a bit of a challenge, but saying that if I hadn't read it I would have missed out on a very amusing read.
Conclusion
I must say that I really enjoyed this book i giggled from start to finish. Buy it if you what something easy to read and you want a good laugh, it will also cheer you up if your feeling down. If you want a book that will last you a few weeks and is a challenging read then this is not for you, Pride and Prejudice it's not. I'm very glad I read it but would have liked it to last a bit longer. The book was free with Eve magazine, which cost £3, very good value for a magazine and a book.

- 03/04/05 Isn't there a TV program at the moment where people like this get advice and help cutting up their credit cards and paying off those debts? LOL! Nice review :)
