SENTENCED TO PRISM
==============
Author - Alan Dean Foster
A very unusual read this one.
It follows Evan Orgell as he is sent to investigate why an illegal outpost on a newly discovered world has failed to call in for the last month. Of course it being there illegally means Evan has to sneak onto the planet as quietly and unobtrusively as possible, this he does using some futuristic methods straight from the mind of Mr Foster.
Set in the far future in a universe of specialists, Evan specialises in being a 'Generalist' that is he is a jack of all trades but master of none.
He has an uncanny sense of getting the job done when all other methods have failed but this time, on this world, he has met his match.
The descriptions of this world are really some of the best sci fi I have ever read. The silicon based world, the silicon based flora and fauna is at times quite frightening as Evan has his job cut out just seeing three feet in front of himself.
Soon he discovers plots within plots and none of it good for the intelligent natives of this world. He soon has a terrible accident but the natives rebuild him and that's it he is on their side from that point on.
A wonderfully descriptive novel with more than its fair share of twists and turns. Horrible silicon creatures and great fight for your life battles. A well constructed plot which hung together well and progressed solidly throughout the entire novel. The dialog between characters was well thought out and believable, whilst the characters themselves where fleshed out and again believable.
Not read much of his novels before but will be giving them a go from now on.
Summary: Give it a go on the beach
