It has been quite a while since I read a book like this with my children as they are reading much more in depth literature now, but after a request from their school, I find myself going back in time, and rediscovering basic childrens books, and I have to say that it has been a delightful experience. Sharing a Shell is a wonderful childrens book written by Julia Donaldson, and illustrated by Lydia Monks. It tells the story of a homeless crab who is looking for a shell. After several unsuccessful attempts at trying to share a shell with various sea creatures, Crab is severely exposed and nearly eaten by a seagull! Fortunately he scuttles away and is ... ***World Book Day*** World Book Day celebrated its 10th year anniversary on the 1st March this year. As with a lot of schools around this time of year, my son’s nursery class were handed out vouchers worth £1 for any purchase of a child’s book worth £2.99 or more. As well as this offer, there are also a number of books that can be purchased with just the voucher so it doesn’t cost you any extra. This year the books available were by authors ranging from Vivien French to Anthony Horowitz. This has to be one of my daughter's (and mine) favourite books. She's had it since she was about 4 months old, and back then she just liked to sit on my knee and look at the pictures, but now at 18 months she loves to hear the story over and over again, and even knows some of the lines and says them along with me. The pictures are really bright and appealing to young children. The glitter used to catch her eye when she was younger; and now she's older she likes to point out the different creatures & other items on each page (crab, shell, anemone, brush, boats, doggies, birdies etc). The rhyming and bouncy text is brilliant and I ... Read the complete review

Another book by one of my favourite "at the moment" authors. I actually bought this because I was doing some work on homes and friendships, and it seemed to encapsulate the two, and then soon after that my topic in the classroom was seasides, so this has been well read. Better than that, i knew without a doubt that it would appeal to Little Miss, as there is lots of glitter and it's a very touchy feely book...certain to grab children's attention. THE STORY This starts with a crab running along the sand, tapping on shells of creatures with homes. They won't let him in, and it's at this stage children realise the ... Read the complete review
