==Overview==
The Shelters of Stone by Jean M. Auel is the latest book from her Earth's Children series. It is the fourth book and long awaited. (especially by me!) If you have not read any of the previous books I wouldn't worry because the book goes into complete explanations of all the characters and explains key points from the previous books. This is a prehistorical novel. I can't say why I love these prehistorical novels except that they are so interesting and the writing is uniquely clever. This book was published in 2002 by Crown Publishers and in hard back it is 749 pages long. Don't be scared by the length- the book is so great you won't want it to end and it goes very fast.

==Short Summary==
I will include a short summary because I don't want to give too much away. I would rather you get the basics and read the details for yourself.

This book leaves off with Ayla, Jondular, their horses and their wolf completing their long journey to Jondular's home with the Zelandonii peoples. They are cro-magnum peoples but Ayla was adopted at five years old by Neanderthals and raised by them. She is really great with language and learns new languages very quickly. She can communicate with the "flatheads" or Neanderthals as well as different tribes of people that they ran into on their journey. She can also communicate with the Zelandonii but with a different sort of accent which makes her different. The Zelandonii are completly different than what she grew up with so there is a lot for her to learn and get used to.
In this book we will ride along Ayla on her journey into acceptance from these new people as well as prepare for her ceremony when Jondular and Ayla will be mated. Ayla is also pregant and she is preparing for the birth of her baby.
Will Ayla be excepted by her new clan? Will she ever be mated with Jondular? Will she learn the customs of the Zelandonii and be comforatble with them? Find out in this exciting tale of acceptance and love.

==My opinion==
I love this book. It is my favorite in the series. I hope that Jean M. Auel will come out with the next book very soon. I love learning about that period of time. I have not read any other fictional books on neanderthals so this book was a real education for me. I learned a lot about the plants of the time period and the stage the Earth was going through. If you love history and love to read it in a fictional manner than this book is for you. Ayla is such a unique character that you can't help but respect and like. Her journey will stay with you for years to come.

Summary: The Shelters of Stone by Jean M. Auel is the latest book from her Earth's Children series.
