This is the 2nd book in the Shopaholic series and it follows the life of Becky Bloomwood. the 1st book, which is called The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic (Renamed Confessions of a Shopaholic) has now been made into a film. Becky has changed a little from the first book, as in she has a boyfriend now, but her spending habits stay the same.
Becky Bloomwood is 27 and lives in Fulham. She works on TV presenting a slot on a popular television show called Sucessful saving. She helps members of the public phoning in with money worries such as mortgages, interest rate and savings. So is Becky a frugal girl? Hardly. She spends more than she earns, she has a huge overdraft she is wanting to increase, a large credit card (or4!) and keeps getting red bills from various store cards. However her work colleages don't know this side of Becky, after all she is hardly in a position to help people save, is she.
So how is Becky in so much debt? She loves to shop. She gets a happy feeling when she had bought something new, and although she decides she needs all the purchases she makes, often she is just buying for the sake of it.
In this book she goes over to New York. her boyfriends Luke Brandon owns a company called Brandon Communications and he is trying to open a branch in New York, so he has asked Becky to come over, and thinks that Becky could become a TV star over there, make loads more money and they can live out there. Becky is dreaming the dream, and thinks what she can spend all her new found money on.
However there is someone who has it is for Becky. Will this person blow her personal cover? Why does she have it in for Becky, and is Becky the real target for this hate campaign. becky doesn't notice anything odd, after all she is just in her own happy world. Will Becky's world fall apart, and what will happen to those close to her?
Don't want to give too much of the story away, but this is a good read. It isn't some high brow book, just an entertaining, fun, easy to read chick book. I'm sure some of us can imagine ourselves in Becky's shoes when it comes to spending money - I know I can!
There is a few more Shopaholic books after this, and they all continue on Becky's story. I love all these books, but think it is this one that is my favourite. You can buy this from most book shops, Amazon, Ebay and Play.com
A highly recommended book.
