Advantages: A funny and poigniant story.
Disadvantages: None.
I have finally finished the fourth instalment of the "shopoholic" series of books from Sophie Kinsellas, and have found that this is one of the funniest books so far.
The book I will now review is "Shopoholic and sister".
The book starts with Becky and her now husband of 8 months Luke surrounded with beauty and tropical settings and 8 months into her travelling honeymoon.
Married life is bliss and her honeymoon has been incredible but both are getting a little too ready to get back to normality, so when they finally get home Becky is gob smacked to see how much everyone else has moved on with their lives....... Without her!
Her best friend Suze has since had twins and found a new "best friend" called Lulu, Becky immediately feels pushed out which results in an argument, and a big falling out.
Luke reverts from his laid back self, happy to have braids in his hair and doing yoga on the beach, and goes back to his former self...work obsessed, anal and stress out individual that is seemingly pushing Becky out of the picture.
And finally assuming her mum and dad would be over the moon to see them she decides to surprise them, but has the tables turned on her.
After catching them with a young woman she has never seen before it transpires that she has a long lost sister....a sister, how wonderful she thinks, someone to go shopping with....or will things work out that way?
This is a really funny book, the under current of Becky's wanton spending still being a main element of the story, there is a particularly funny part when all the things turn up that she has brought on their honeymoon, and it has to be brought in two lorries!
There is also a lot of heartache within this story, Becky's relationship breakdown with Suze, and her over the top efforts to try and get her away from her new friend Lulu, she nearly breaks her neck horse riding, then discovers there are shops in the Scottish village where Suze lives. The scene where Becky and her horse turn up at the stables with bags of shopping tied onto every available space on the horse bridle and seat is particularly funny.
There is the also added dimension of Becky's new and long lost sister, who doesn't actually turn out to be what you would expect a sister of Becky's to be like, after a really big fall out within the family this leads Becky on one of the biggest adventures to she has gone on so far.....and all in her Jimmy Choo's!
This is another fantastic offering from Sophie Kinsella, funny and clever with Becky always stealing the limelight, though in this book a little self awareness of herself, whether this will change her character in the long run is debatable, but definitely adds a little more to the story.
This books R.R.P is £7.99, but is available for pennies from www.amazon.co.uk
