Advantages: A nice read.
Disadvantages: Is a little slow starting.
My darling younger sister has finally lent me the final three books in "Shopoholic" series, with the third in the series being the subject of this review.
The book I wil now review is -"Shopoholic ties the knot by Sophie Kinsella"
The story starts with Becky Bloom wood (the main character) and her partner Luke, finally sharing an apartment in New York. Becky is doing her ideal job, a personal shopper at the fancy store Barney's, with Luke endeavouring to get his New York branch of Brandon communications off the ground.
After attending Suze and her fiancé Tarquin's wedding, Luke pops the big question and Becky accepts.
This of course is Becky's dream scenario, this gives her the excuse (not like she actually needs one), ok, the justification to spend money on "the" designer dress, the perfect flower display....... Etc.
But after a mix up with her mum and her mother in law to be, the dragon Elinor, her wedding day will be eventful to say the least.
Will she have her dream wedding, Elinor's or her mum's, only time will tell!
I have to say that even though I really enjoyed this book, with it only taking me 3 days to complete, I did feel a little frustrated at times with it.
As with the two previous books Becky's spending and her lack of boundaries was the main theme, but I feel that even though she is a self confessed shopoholic, that surely her partner would have been able to recognise the money spent out of their joint account, this in itself was a little unbelievable.
I did like the little side stories that were included though, the tales of her clients and their personal lives added a nice dimension to the proceedings, but by far the story of Luke and his estranged mother Elinor was the best, and in my opinion was quite a gritty part of the book.
I think you could deem yourself very lucky if you have not had some sort of run in with your mother in aw at one time or another, I know I have but looking from her point of view I think I will be the same with my son! But the relationship between Becky and hers seems so much more extreme in nature than most.
Elinor is a leading socialite in New York, with image being her entire world, so trying to develop a relationship with what Becky calls the "ice queen" was never going to be easy, but t times you genuinely feel sorry for Luke and Becky at the treatment that they receive from the one person who should have their backs.
As with all the other books the attention to detail is fantastic, everything is described in such a way that you can imagine the elegance and sumptuous surroundings of the Plaza, the taste of the £1000 dollars wedding cake and the look of her t-shirt wedding dress, courtesy of her neighbour Danny!
This is another fantastic character that makes you actually laugh out loud at times, a flailing wanna be designer, hanging onto Becky's coat tails, that just turns out to be one of her best and trusted friends, a nice addition.
This is a nice chick it book, that after the initial drag of story for the first few chapters turns into a really funny and heart wrenching tale of love, romance and of course shopping!
