 ... but upon closer inspection, it turned out, not to be a story book, but rather, a collection of poems ( understandly, after finding out the writer was an accomplished poet) and interesting facts about a variety of australian animals. From what I have read elsewhere, 'silly galah' is an australian slang term for a 'fool' and therefore this title reflects the silly but fun nature of the poems included in this book. As with a lot of the childrens books that I buy for my classroom, I picked this book 'Silly Galah' up for 45p in a local charity shop, virtually brand new. I only had a quick scan when I bought it, and figured that for 45p I couldn't go wrong, especially since it published as part of the Scholastic group. I was also rather chuffed that I had got a bargain, because after a quick look online, it appears to be selling on some websites for just over £20. Ridiculous in my opinion for any children's book! Anyhow, this book has been written by Janeen Brian and illustrated beautifully by Cheryll Johns, and is in fact, an australian publication (published 2001). ...  Read the complete review
