Advantages: Good pace, twists and codes all involved.
Disadvantages: I felt it wrapped up too quickly.
Looking through the thriller section, I picked this book up randomly. Turned out to be a good choice. The story is based around partners Michelle Maxwell and Sean King (although there is chemistry there, at the moment they're simply colleagues). Both are private detectives, but Michelle is going through a bad patch.
This isn't the first in the series, but I gathered that during their last book Michelle's boyfriend was a serial killer. That is bound to mess anybody up. But there's more to Michelle's depression than just that. The story starts in a bar, where Michelle is getting pretty drunk. And she has only one intention in mind: kill someone. Anyone. She finds a target in the biggest guy at the club. She does some pretty serious damage to the man, but just as she's about to dig in one final time, she hesitates. From there the tables are turned. Now the guys beating her up, and she's lost it.
Sean King gets the call about Michelle being in hospital. From there its simple. He convices her to see a therapist as she obviously has some major issues to deal with. And with no money coming in, things are kinda tight. Until Sean gets in touch with an old ex who gets him an investigative job. Pretty soon Michelle's mission is sort out the therapy and do what she does best: help Sean.
Needless to say there is a conspiracy at the heart of Sean's investigation. Now it's a simple matter of finding out what the conspiracy is, and whose conspiracy it is.
Summary: A good read, worth the hours.
