Advantages: Vegetarian, nicely presented, tasty recipes and easy to follow.

Disadvantages: Few pictures.

Sizzlers and Barbeques by Tarla Dalal is actually a good book to give new ideas for vegetarians amongst us or what to serve a vegetarian guest at a barbeque. Ok so its not really barbeque weather, but the recipes can be cooked any time using frying pan, grills and ovens. To be honest I have always thought what on earth do vegetarians eat as the choice always seems so limited. Although most of the recipes have an indian take there are also some recipes from other countries.


About the author Tarla Dalal, well she is apparently India's number one cookery author, she has a whole series of books covering Indian traditional dishes to health related recipe books. She has her own website and blog. Website is at www.tarladalal.com. The majority of her cookery books contain vegetarian recipes I think there is just one book in the series that involves meat. So if your vegetarian and have an indian grocery store near by or a major supermarket that is likely to have the ingredients in then you can make being vegetarian or entertaining vegetarians that much easier with a variety of recipes.

Sauces & Dips


It contains 51 recipes and 7 pages of pictures, I wish there was more pictures to show me how the food should look, But to be honest the instructions are well written, understandable and easy to follow. There is no way you could possible go wrong.


My particular favourites were the spicy baby corn and the corn and potato kebabs, so easy to make and everyone in my family loved them and infact finished them off within minutes. I have never used cookery books more than I have the Tarla Dalal range. Its definately a range to check out. Majority of Tarla dalal books tend to get sold out especially on Amazon and Play. Prices of the books range from £3.99 to £9.99. This particular book was priced around £6. You don't even have to buy the book, some but not all the recipes can be found at her website as I have previously mentioned.
