Advantages: Great intense story and characterisation
Disadvantages: none!
The sequel to Airborn, the critically acclaimed novel by Kenneth Oppel, revolving around Matt Cruse, a cabin boy, who aspires to be a captain one day, but due to his poor background, has to work really hard.
In Skybreaker, Matt, on his work program spots the legendary Hyperion, a rumoured ghost ship full of gold and treasure, and pirates are chasing him to get the co-ordinates. It is a race against time and the pirates, to reach there first.
Along with Kate, whom he met and fell in love with in the last novel, Nadira, a gypsy girl who apparently holds the only key being able to hold the safe, and Hal, owner of the ship capable of sailing 20000 feet into the air to salvage the Hyperion!
Emotions tense/ tension strikes between the four, and complex relationships form, yet they must all work together to not only succeed the mission, but to stay alive.
Once again, Oppel does an immense job at creating characters with great varying personalites whom you can relate to and imagine. The storyline is fresh and exciting, taking the characters to new heights, and playing with their emotions and relationships.
If you've never read Airborn, then you must get both, as they are fantastic reads which engage you, and a book you just cannoy put down. I have read both twice and love it each time, being thrilled all the same. The plot twists and connections all work out and make sense making this book really clever too!
The detail and research put into writing this is evident, and makes this an even more enjoyable read.
I bought this on amazon for around £3 and it is great. Well worth it!
Summary: An immense journey of excitement!
