Advantages: a good book...

Disadvantages: not scary :-(

This book is the 3rd book in the Demonata series. I have just looked at my 2 reviews on the second and first books of this series, and I am surprised at how rubbish those reviews actually are. It just goes to show that I am actually improving on my reviews. I've been meaning to finish this series off, but Darren Shan keeps on making more and more books in the series, and I so cannot catch up. But I am trying.

I got this book, along with the next 2 books, from the scholastic catalogue. I got all 3 of them for only £6.99 which is well worth it considering each book is £5.99 in the shops. I always buy out of the catalogue as it is inevitably cheap and I just cannot refuse such a bargain.

Darren Shan is one of my all time favourite authors. I have to tell you that he is up there with Meg Cabot and Stephenie Meyer. However, I have recently noticed that his writing style is getting me less and less interested in reading his books, which is kind of weird. But I think the reason for this is that I'm growing older and although I've been a fan of his books for some time, I'm passing the age group for Darren Shan, and therefore making me not enjoying these books as much as I once would. Darren Shan has written many books, including 2 series (The Darren Shan Sega, which is going to be made into a film, and This Demonata Series), a world book day book (which was brilliant), and he has enrolled into adult fiction also. I have read all 12 books of The Darren Shan Sega, and I cannot wait to watch it on the big screen.

Now these books are kind of messed up (well in my opinion) as there is like 2 series enrolled into 1. The first book is all about somebody called Grubs Grady. Then the second book is all about someone entirely different, and the book is set in the past. Then this book comes back to the present, and follows Grubs Grady again. I have to admit it is like starting a new book altogether.

The plot is about both Grubbs and his uncle: Dervish. Dervish is having nightmares, and who can blame him? He's been stuck in the Demonata Universe, fighting Lord Loss. He has come out alive, meaning he won against Lord Loss. Then Dervish has the opportunity to take his mind off things as legendary director, Davida Haym, calls upon him for help. He takes it within seconds and quickly learns that it is a demonic film starring the Demonata. This may seem the perfect chance to get some freedom and lots and lots of fun. But being on the set of a town called Slawter may stir up horrible memories for Grubbs and Bill-E.

I really don't know what to make of this book. I think the fact that I had to try my best to remember what happened in the first book (Lord Loss). I was hoping to read the blurb of Lord Loss, but that's kind of really hard to do if you've already passed it on to a friend. So I tried my best to remember the storyline, and although I couldn't remember it perfectly, it was still there in my head. I think the problem with this series altogether, is the way in which you have to follow the characters. You want to read the first book then the second etc. all in order. And you can easily do that, but I reckon you'll have to do that one after the other and not do what I did which was read tonnes and tonnes of books in between the second and third books, if that has made any sense to you then that's good.

Darren Shan isn't too far behind R.L. Stine. They are nearly as scary as one another, however my idea of that has gone down the drain, I wasn't hooked into this book. The cover has no marks from where I've held really tight, and the reason for this is because I was NOT SCARED. I think the scariness has just deflated from his writing technique, and I am really hoping that his next few books will scare me, because I'll easily get bored with this series if it does terrify me.

The covers (in my opinion) are really good, because you can expose them to your lamp and then turn off the lamp and the eyes and teeth and hands (in this book's case) will glow in the dark. The best thing you can do with this, is show this to a little kid (like my brother) who screams their head off, it's so hilarious. Though this special part of this book does not beat the special part of Salem's tails (read my review to understand me).

I have to tell you that I haven't written a review lately because I didn't really want to write a review. I don't know whether it is to do with the whole idea of writing for this book, or if it's to do with a totally different aspect altogether. For all I know I could be totally bored writing book reviews, but I need to write them as I have 6 more to write and it'll just bug me if I don't!
