Advantages: Fabulously funny

Disadvantages: Ridiculously overpriced at £5.99 for a paperback

Leave your dignity at the bedroom door. Its far too much of a hindrance for any Lynley Dodd story, particularly this one with its requirements for impersonations of dogs, alarm clocks and random crashes and bangs. The storys just not the same without an Oscar winning soundtrack performed as a solo by you the reader.

Lynley Dodd stories leave my daughters laughing out loud and Slinky Malinki is no exception. The story itself is simple enough. What makes it spectacular is the detail woven into rhyme on every page. Its a pleasure to listen to and a joy to read. In this particular tale Slinky Malinki is an ordinary cat on nocturnal walk about. A walk about worthy of a kleptomaniac. The sheer diversity and volume of items aquired and the ingenuity required to get them all home makes for very entertaining reading. Not half as entertaining though as the series of unfortunate events which unfold when Slinky Malinki piles the items up high on his mat. Even the most serious of adults can't fail to find this funny. The pictures add to the story but quite frankly they aren't needed, the picture in your head created by the text is far better.

Retailing at a ridiculously expensive £5.99 in paperback its worth investing in one of Lynley Dodds many hardback compilations of 5 stories for £12.99, especially if that book happens to contain Catterwaul Capers and Rumpus at the Vet.

Summary: Yet another book that should be on every childs bookshelf
