Snakehead is a children's novel that retells the complex myth of Perseus and Andromeda in a way that's entertaining and understandable. There are many different variations on the myth, but here it is in brief: ~ Perseus is the son of Danae and the god Zeus. Cast into the sea in a wooden chest, Danae and Perseus are taken in by a fisherman, Dictys on the island of Seriphos. However, the brother of Dictys, King Polydectes, wants to marry Danae. He hatches a plot to get rid of Perseus, sending him on a hopeless quest to bring back the head of the gorgon Medusa. With help from the gods Hermes, Athena and Hades, he succeeds.
