Advantages: Fast paced, funny, sweet
Disadvantages: Contrived!
This is the kind of book that gives me hope!
Fiona Walker is an author I had read before, but I hadn't actually heard of his book.
The premise is slightly odd and the fact that it starts in a comedy club does immediately imply the entertainment factor that is a large plot fixture! It is an obvious romance story however inexactly (or unromantically) is starts although I likes the fact that a friendship group was heavily involved.
Juno is one of those types that is not quite a heroine from the word go - she is a quintessential mad friend type and never presents a very together impression. The entire novel is froma sort of omnipotent perspective, but follows Juno and does allow some interaction with what she is thinking. And however likeable she is there are moments when you just want to shout at her 'NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO'!
Jay is of course the essential dark handsome stranger, with all the added necessities (moody and mysterious). You do get some insights in to his character and there are some points where he goes to the opposite extreme. This doesn't really fit but given some of the other extreme characters is passable.
The family and friends of Juno are totally outrageously larger than life and although you can't quite believe that they really exist, they do fit with the general tone of the book and play off Juno to a tee.
The novel is contrived and predictable but is ultimately a feel good book and one of thoe where you want the happy ending. It is not a literary masterpiece, but is a great fun easy read!
The book is 550+ pages with RRP £9.99, but can be found on various offers.
Summary: Fiona Walker on form entertainment
