Advantages: Great pop-ups. Colourful. Educational.
Disadvantages: None.
'Snappy Little Numbers' is just one title in the vast 'Snappy Pop-Up Books' series, a bestselling range with over 10 million copies sold worldwide. Like most people, I just adore pop-up books and never cease to be amazed by just how intricate some of these books can be. As well as being fantastic visually, the Snappy Pop-Ups aim to be educational too, hence titles such as this, & other s such as Snappy Little Colours/Oceans/Dinosaurs/Opposites etc. The books are all hardback with bright, fun illustrations & an almost holographic cover - very eye-catching!
Snappy Little Numbers focuses on counting to 10. Each 2 page spread in the book features a pop-up character in the centre, with a short rhyme on each page pertaining to the character. The second verse features the numbers emphasised in capital lettering, & encourages children to count something within the picture.
For example, the first 2 pages feature a frog on a lily pad. His moth pops open to reveal a long tongue with ONE fly on it. The first verse goes:
Little frog is ready
To eat his dinner quick.
Make his tongue
Go up and down -
FLICK, FLICK, FLICK!
The second verse then goes:
How many flies
Has he caught with his tongue?
Count them up
And you'll get to ONE.
Other pages feature an elephant with TWO tusks, a pelican who has caught THREE fish, a monkey eating FOUR bananas, a whale chasing FIVE seahorses, a puppy hiding SIX bones, a lion with SEVEN whiskers, a hippo with EIGHT teeth, a bunny with NINE carrots...finishing with the final verse:
Here's a hungry crocodile - he's a happy chappy...
Count his teeth from ONE to TEN - but you'd better make it
SNAPPY!
Each page also features the corresponding numbers written clearly in bold at the bottom. A fun way to learn to count to 10!
The RRP of each Snappy Pop-Up is £7.99, but I purchased some from TKMaxx for £4.99, & later found some at The Works for £2.99 (so do shop around...).
I think this is a great fun series. I have 5 titles now, but am always on the lookout for more to add to the collection!
Summary: Fun way to learn!
