Advantages: Just like Mansell's others. Smart, Witty and very well written.

Disadvantages: Tessa not as strong as you expect from a Mansell character.

Jill Mansell's Solo has Tessa in the staring role. Tessa, a struggling artist who is getting by in life with no great aspirations, goes to a party which will turn her life upside down. Her morals and integrity will be tested. Her financial situation will make decisions for her even if it goes against her personal reasons, and she will discover just what life is like on the other side of the fence.

In relation to Mansell's other plots this divergences with love finding Tessa rather than Tessa seeking love. For example Tessa goes to a party against her better judgement whereas Mansell's other main characters are more forceful and would be there if they wanted to and wouldn't be if they didn't.
Tessa's character also differed from other characters of Mansell's books in that she didn't have the same conviction or strength that Mansell usually depicts. She ended up in situations where she would be hurt quite badly, but she would still choose to stay there.

For me I didn't find this book as enjoyable as the others, however it is still very well written and provides a great summer or bed time read.

Summary: If you are a great fan of Mansell's it's still good to read. If it is your first time then don't.
