Firstly I'll admit that I haven't read this book and I don't have a child with a 'sleep problem', however I do know quite a bit about Dr Richard Ferber and his approach to teaching babies to sleep which has become known as 'Ferberizing'. Dr Richard Ferber is director of the Centre for Paediatric Sleep Disorders at a hospital in Boston, USA. His research at the centre has lead him to write this book 'Solve your Child's Sleep Problem'. His basic approach to teaching a baby to sleep is to put your baby to sleep while he's still awake, you then leave the room and the idea is that your baby learns to fall asleep alone. If ... I bought this book on recommendation from a friend, she had used this method with her baby and had amazing results. My baby was 7 months old when I purchased this book and like many other people I was sceptical about the method and was concerned about the effect on the baby. My baby is not a bad sleeper but does have a 'sleep problem' so to speak in that she wont sleep without her bottle. This was starting to get me down because she was consuming far too much milk in an effort to get to sleep which in turn was having an adverse effect on her appetite for her much needed solid foods. Anyway I bought this book, read it and ... Read the complete review

I have not yet read Dr. Ferber's book, but it has been suggested to me by my baby's pediatrician. Although I can't saying I'm using the method in its entirety currently, I am trying to help my 4 month old sleep through the night, which she is very ready for. In fact, once I increased her fluid intake to 6-7 oz per feeding last week, last Tuesday she slept through the night on her own! A whole 12.5 hours. Since she started it on her own, but then fell back into her usual night waking, I have started the method. I let her cry for 5 minutes, then check, then for 10 minutes and check, then for 15 minutes and check, and check her every 15 minutes ... Read the complete review

Of course children should be loved and cherished no matter what but I actually believe that parents have rights too and they should be acknowledged. An exhausted, miserable parent is unlikely to be giving their child adequate attention and stimulation during the day, is more likely to physically harm their child through tiredness and more likely to suffer post natal depression. In my experience it usually only takes less than a week for things to be dramatically improved by this method and the child doesn't seem to remember it afterwards. People often put it off for years and then find they either have to do it when the child is older which is more distressing for ... Read the complete review

When my baby was born, the only way I could get her to sleep was to hold her for about ½ and hour until she was so ‘far gone’ that I could put her down. As she got older, this got more and more difficult as she would keep checking to see if we were holding her. To make matters worse, she was waking up to feed every 3 hours. This went on for 7 months, and would’ve stopped sooner if she didn’t have such bad eczema, but once that was under control, I’d decided that enough was enough. I needed a plan. This is where ‘Solve Your Child’s Sleep Problems’ comes in. I was so desperate for sleep, and the book covers ... Read the complete review

Brilliant finale to the saga of Darren Shan. All loose ends are tied and questions answered.
Could have possibly been longer but each book in the saga has been quite short
Shadow Valley - Gwen Hunter
A fast paced thriller very well written
Might not suit all readers of thrillers .
Thomas & Friends: Toby - W. Awdry
It's got large writing, a lovely story, colourful pictures!
The paper is thin and kids could easily rip it!
