Noah picked this one up when we went to the library the other day and I didn't hesitate to bring it home with us because I vaguely remembered seeing it in the Dooyoo catalogue (Not that I'm addicted or anything!). The story is written by the well known children's author Jez Alborough and was first published in 2003 by Walker Books Ltd. The story is about a little, friendly looking dog called Sid who feels extremely happy on walking to school one day that he discovers he can fly. When he gets to school he is obviously very eager to tell all of his friends and the teacher but they don't believe him and tell him off for lying. He eventually decides to ... My three year old recently received this delightful book in her BookStart pack which all three year olds get and it is fast becoming one of her favourites. We already own quite a few Jez Alborough books so we were very happy to add this to our collection. The main character in this story is an adorable little dog called Sid. Something amazing happens to Sid when he is on his way to school one day because he starts to fly! It's a fantastic experience and he can't quite believe it. Unfortunately when he gets to school no one else believes him either. Sadly, when he tries to fly again he finds that, with everyone watching, he cannot do it and goes home a very sad ... Some Dogs Do is a gorgeous picture book by Jez Alborough. I already knew Jez Alborough from his Duck in the Truck books which the grandson loves, so I was keen to give this a go when we were given it in a bag of books from a neighbour (we like to swap them in the street, keeps costs down!). If you want to buy this, you can get it from Amazon for £4.49 though the RRP is £5.99. I think that's a lot, but it's perfectly normal where the prices of kid's books are concerned in fairness. The first thing that stands out about this book is how big and bright the glossy front cover is. The super attractive cover is bound to appeal to most little ones. Inside, there ... Despite him having quite a reputation in the world of pre-schoolers' picture books I have never been quite a fan of Jez Alborough. I am also bit ambivalent about books that use animal characters in human roles. And despite both these reservations I have to say that 'Some Dogs Do' is simply wonderful. It's the best feel-good book I have encountered for ages, including the grown-up ones. It's hard to precisely say why, but somehow, the combination of the story, the rhyme and the illustrations is just spot on. Sid is a dog - a pup really, probably equivalent to a 5-6 year old and he's drawn (or rather painted) in an enchanting but not overtly sweet ... Read the complete review

The title of this book 'Some dogs do' gets the imgaination revved up instantly - some dogs do what? You just have to open the book to find out, nobody can resist. This story is about a young pup, Sid, who one day feeling overtly happy as he walks to school finds that he can fly. The feeling of being so so happy and floaty that he really does take off, gently like a 'doggy shaped balloon.' This pleases Sid even more but when nobody at school believes him his mood is changed and no matter how hard he tries he can no longer fly. He is told it is impossible, you can't do it, you only walk, it isn't possible, forget it and his belief in himself is trodden on ... Read the complete review
