Advantages: Fantastic story.

Disadvantages: A rushed ending.

My mother in law, or it could well be my father in law, has decided that something has to give, there are far too many books in their little flat so there has got to be a bit of a sort out...... Yippeee! I now have at least 30 new books, with the promise of a good 10 extra a month, hence another book review!

The book I will now review is - "Some sunny day by Annie Groves"

Rosie loves her life. Even though it is wartime and her beloved father is away at sea again she is among the people that she truly loves.
Unusually she lives in the heart of what the Liverpuddlians at the time deem as "little Italy", she is completely in awe of her assumed nationality.
Through her outgoing and mostly brash mother, Rosie has been taken to the heart of the Grenelli family, with their youngest member, Bella being Rosie's best friend.
Life is great until the day Mussolini pledges his support to Hitler, this starts a chain of events that shows the two best friends their differences.
After one fateful night, Rosie is thrown from the proverbial bosom of this proud Italian family, the men of the family being brandished as facists, never to be returned, shows the great divide between Rosie and Bella.

This is a bog standard wartime book with the twists of the so called "enemy" being one of the focal points.
The book jumps between the terrible bombing blitz's that Liverpool had to endure through to the land girls endeavour to "do their bit" towards the war effort.

I have always loved these sort of books, they are what I would deem as easy reading, even though at times the descriptions of the bombings and the people lost to the war can get a little harrowing, I feel that with all this as the background you will never be any doubt that this is predominantly a wartime love story.

There is the added element of the "enemy" Italian prisoners of war, that the land girls are expected to work alongside in the fields, this is a nice part of the story seeing how so many prejudiced characters have their beliefs challenged and usually changed due to the simply fact that most of these people are in the same boat as the English, part of a war that should never be taking place.

This is a lovely book with one fault, the ending!

I will not go into detail as I would hate to spoil the book for anyone interested, but to me the story has got to the point where something had to give, instead the story seemed to race towards the finish line, giving the reader their happy ever afters in about three pages flat, this annoyed the hell out of me due to the fact it took ¾ of the book to get to the breaking point!

So for this one reason I will be marking it down, a real shame I feel, as the story had an incredible amount of promise, ending wise.

This book is available to buy from www.amazon.co.uk for around the £5.00 mark plus P&P
