Advantages: You can learn all the silly songs

Disadvantages: If you're a none night gardener - you just won't get it!

This is a beautiful book and well worth the £9.99 we paid for it from Mothercare (although my husband would disagree as he thought it was too expensive - he's not into books and hates spending money on them!) But with my begging and pleading we left the shop in possession of this book.

It's quite a big book, bigger than most other Night Garden books I've seen - approx 25x25cm, and has a lovely soft padded cover which to me makes the book feel a bit more special. The pages are made from cardboard but are not quite as thick & sturdy as your usual board book, but still pretty durable nonetheless.

As the title says, the book is full of songs and rhymes from In The Night Garden, and if your child is a fan of the show, then this book is an essential accessory; not only for the child but also for you as the parent. The reason being that it has all the words to all the ridiculous songs and rhymes that go along with the characters in the programme (a couple of examples - makka pakka akka wakka mikka makka moo; igglepiggle-niggle-wiggle-diggle...) so you can obviously learn the words and sing along with the show, or just sing them to your child when he or she feels the need.

The first two pages of the book have the opening rhyme from the show - 'The night is black and the stars are bright... etc' - and then as you progress through the book each character has it's own page with the corresponding rhyme. Then the last couple of pages have all the characters going to sleep, and it ends with Igglepiggle tucking himself up snugly in his boat and drifting away, just as it happens in the show. (I must point out that The Wottingers are missing from the book for some reason, but then again they don't have a rhyme so that could be the explanation).

The pages are really colourful & bright with lovely photos of each character, I think it will appeal to any child, whether they are into In the Night Garden or not. My daughter has had this book since her 1st birthday (about 9 months ago) and she has never tired of it, she loves to look at all the characters and loves to hear me sing the rhymes to her. And although it has been well used, it is still in good condition and has stood the test of sticky toddler hands & teeth all over it.

It comes highly recommended from me and my daughter, especially if your little one is a big fan of the show, and even more recommended if you don't know the words to the songs!!

Summary: Lovely book to go with the show

Our girls never got into the Night Garden so all that Iggle Makka Wakka means nothing to me I'm afraid! Good review, Caroline xx
