I recently read a book which blew me away. Witch Child by Celia Rees tells the story of 14 year old Mary, whose only relative, her Grandmother has been hanged for witchcraft in 17th century England. The book, told entirely in diary form tells her story of escape on board a ship full of Puritans crossing the Atlantic, straight to Salem, onto Beulah, and ends with her fleeing the settlement she has made a home within, accused herself now of witchcraft and fearful for her life. Witch Child is a fictional diary, told from Mary, apart from small fore and after words from a woman called Alison Ellman, who explains that the manuscript was found in a quilt 300 years ...  Read the complete review
