Premium Review Soul Music - Terry Pratchett: Music With Rocks In... (985 words)
by - written on 25/01/06 (Very useful, 231 readings)
Rating:

On the Discworld, Imp was a bard from Llamedos who everyone suspected of being Elvish (took me half way through the book for that one to sink in... I know, I know, I'm slow...) Coming to Ankh-Morpork, the Capital city, he forms an unlikely alliance with Glod (a dwarf - a wonderful character who thinks he's good at striking a deal, but when he haggles ends up paying more than his original price...) and Lias, a Troll. The Trolls have a rather pragmatic view of life and name things literally, thus the music they play on rocks is simply call, "Music with Rocks in it". (Later the group gets called, just as imaginatively, "The Band With Rocks In ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review On a mission from Glod! (813 words)
by - written on 18/02/02 (Very useful, 125 readings)
Rating:

Well, Pratchett's done it again hasn't he now? Another of his books on Death and a particularly good one to boot. Although Death appears in each and every book in the beloved Discworld series, there are certain books which have this wonderful caharacter as the focus of the story - like Reaper Man and Mort, this is one of those books. Plot: ===== Death has gone again, his grandaughter, Susan, is now in charge of the whole executive arm of mortality and is none too pleased with the responsibility. She's dragged away from school by the persuasive powers of the Death of Rats and his (?) trusty translator raven - she takes over and is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Soul Music - Terry Pratchett: ROCK'N'ROLL in a fantasy Universe!! (304 words)
by - written on 29/10/08 (Very useful, 137 readings)
Rating:

This is the first Terry Pratchett book I read, on recommendation of someone who also likes fantasy books. I LOVED IT!! It is simply hilarious. I tried reading another one after that, but it didn't work half so well.. so I get it it is a case of 'touch & miss' with Pratchett's books... Well, it didn't hurt I was reading the big book on Rolling Stones at the same time!! :) I was just laughing from scene to scene, how Terry Pratchett managed to convey into a fantasy universe - his infamous 'Discworld' what really happened to the Rolling Stones in the 60's, etc. If you like hilarious, absurd, simply silly scenes that ...  Read the complete review

This is a story about sex and drugs and Music With Rocks In. Well.... ....one out of three ain't bad. Actually, it's only thirty-three per cent, but it could be worse. (sorry that was an extract from 'Soul Music', not a witty prologue by me, but it illustrates the style of the book very neatly.) This is my favorite book of all-time....ever! And that is why I'm writing this to tell you how wonderful it is. Aren't I just so kind!? anyway.....'Soul Music' is about a young girl, called Susan, and her grand-father, called Death.....Yes, that's right, Susan is the grand-daughter of the Grim ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Soul Music - Terry Pratchett: She's Not The Tooth Fairy............[fixed sorry] (553 words)
by - written on 12/05/01 (Useful, 49 readings)
Rating:

Pratchett. He writes books. Hes written quite a lot of books , about twenty or so in the discworld series alone. Strange , hes written so many acclaimed books like "The Colour of Magic" and "Mort" , he never seems to have been given any literary awards at all for any of his books. But anyway thats side-tracking from the point of the book. "Soul Music" follows on the theme of the death books such as Mort nd Reaper Man which are both excellent books . "Soul Music" follows the life of schoolgirl Susan Sto Helit and she's not an ordinary pupil , she blends in too easily , what’s even stranger is that when she ...  Read the complete review
