The Death of Rats enlists the help of a Raven to interpret for him and goes after the girl... Of course, the other thing is that the Guild of Musicians don't like the new band that's appearing and taking the world by storm... and especially the fact that they're not properly paid-up Guild members... and even more than that, they don't like the fact that the toughs they send to sort things out have a strange habi...more

Premium Review Soul Music - Terry Pratchett: Music With Rocks In... (985 words)

On the Discworld, Imp was a bard from Llamedos who everyone suspected of being Elvish (took me half way through the book for that one to sink in... I know, I know, I'm slow...) Coming to Ankh-Morpork, the Capital city, he forms an unlikely alliance with Glod (a dwarf - a wonderful character who thinks he's good at striking a deal, but when he haggles ends up paying more than his original price...) and Lias, a Troll. The Trolls have a rather pragmatic view of life and name things literally, thus the music they play on rocks is simply call, "Music with Rocks in it". Well, Pratchett's done it again hasn't he now? Another of his books on Death and a particularly good one to boot. Plot: ===== Death has gone again, his grandaughter, Susan, is now in charge of the whole executive arm of mortality and is none too pleased with the responsibility. She's dragged away from school by the persuasive powers of the Death of Rats and his (?) trusty translator raven - she takes over and is ...

This is a story about sex and drugs and Music With Rocks In. Well.... ....one out of three ain't bad. Actually, it's only thirty-three per cent, but it could be worse. (sorry that was an extract from 'Soul Music', not a witty prologue by me, but it illustrates the style of the book very neatly.) This is my favorite book of all-time....ever! And that is why I'm writing this to tell you how wonderful it is. Aren't I just so kind!? anyway.....'Soul Music' is about a young girl, called Susan, and her grand-father, called Death.....Yes, that's right, Susan is the grand-daughter of the Grim ...
