Soul of the Fire is the fifth book in the wonderful epic Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. Soul of the Fire carries on from where Temple of winds finished. This book came out back in april 1999 and was another big hit for Terry Goodkind. The sword of truth series is one of the biggest fantasy sellers of all time so everytime Goodkind released a new book from the series he knew it would sell very well. The story in this book carries on from where we left it in the last. Richard and Kahlan have at long last got themselves married and they are back with the Mud people. Suddenly though people start dying and to stop this Kahlan calls forth the Chimes, ... Read the complete review

This book is the latest offering by the intriguingly imaginative author Terry Goodkind. As an avid fan of any literature containing wizards, dragons and stacks of fire and brimstone, I would say to fellow readers of the excellent "Sword of Truth" series, that this book, in my opinion, has definitely picked up the pace somewhat, and is beginning to pull in more loose threads regarding the major characters and story lines. I would agree with earlier opinions that the previous book "Soul of the Fire", was starting to digress from the main storyline to a point that I felt that I was "losing the plot" somewhat, and with so many sub plots ... Although the series started with the undoubtably excellent 'Wizard's First Rule' and 'Wizard's Second Rule' I have to say I think Goodkind has somewhat lost his way as far as the story is concerned. The series follows Richard Rahl, a powerful wizard and his exploits with Zedd, the First Wizard and Kahlan, the Mother Confessor through a world fighting against the evil magic of wizards such as Darken Rahl ironically Richard's father. Goodkind writes many new concepts into his fantasy that have not been touched upon previously yet he does unfortunately have a tendency to forget what skills he has given to his characters. He often ... Read the complete review

Terry Goodkind's fith offering in the Sword of Truth offering and unfortunatly not his best. Although this is still an excellent book it is really not that different from his previous "Temple of the Winds" and nowhere near his first three. This is a continuation of the story but moves along very slowly and is missing the fast pace and dramatic tone of his prevous four. Goodkinds previous books; Wizards First Rule, Stone of Tears, Blood of the Fold and Temple of the Winds were all new developments. If you have read the other books then this one is worth buying, if you haven't I would definatly buy the others first. ... Read the complete review

This is the fifth book in Terry Goodkinds epic. It has the same good writing techniques but unfortunately a lot of the book is focused away from the characters we have come to know, but focuses on a small country in the Midlands where the new character we meet can be seen as adding to the story, but due to the ending not the epic as a whole. It would also be intresting to find out where Nathan has gone which still remains a mystery in this book This book may have been better as a stand-alone book, rather than trying to be part of the saga. We can only hope that the next book will bring the focus back to the main story. ... Read the complete review
