Advantages: Good Story, Well Written
Disadvantages: A Little Repetitive
Soul of the Fire is the fifth book in the wonderful epic Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. Soul of the Fire carries on from where Temple of winds finished. This book came out back in april 1999 and was another big hit for Terry Goodkind. The sword of truth series is one of the biggest fantasy sellers of all time so everytime Goodkind released a new book from the series he knew it would sell very well.
The story in this book carries on from where we left it in the last. Richard and Kahlan have at long last got themselves married and they are back with the Mud people. Suddenly though people start dying and to stop this Kahlan calls forth the Chimes, a magical force, but the problem is once called forth they cannot be stopped.
Once the chimes are called they cause chaos and need to be halted! Zedd sends Richard and Kahlan back to Anderith to get a spell that will stop the chimes. However once back at Anderith Richard finds the people there are not happy to submit to his rule, and he has to convince them whcih course to take.
Again this is a really good book, however for the first time I found this book a little more tough to read. Although I did enjoy it, it is starting to feel like Goodkind is running out of ideas. The story seems to be repeating itself, the same threats keep emerging and there is nothing really fresh and new to get your teeth into.
Having said that Goodkinds writing style is still excellent, the story moves quickly and is very enjoyable. There are more new characters and as always the way Goodkind describes the action is brilliant. The world he has created is very good, and he has a way of describing it that really makes it come alive for the reader.
If you have read the other four books in the series you will enjoy this one, and once you have started the series you really need to see it through. But as I said this one does not quite live up to the previous four books in my opinion. Book you certainly can't skip it and move onto the next! So just get your head down and enjoy the book for what it is, as to be honest it's still a very enjoyable read!
Summary: Another Good Book
