Spa Wars - Chris Manby: Battle of the beauty business (519 words)
by - written on 24/11/10 (Very useful, 52 readings)
Rating:

This is a review of the 2008 book 'Spa Wars' by Chris Manby, an author I'm really starting to warm to now! Loving the easy reading chick lit style of her work and always get sucked into the storyline. The cover of my books is fabulous, with sparkly silver text and glittery writing for the authors name and the teaser text to get you interested. It's even glittery on the spine so that definitely made me want to pick this book up. The picture is different to the thumbnail here and features a woman holding a hairdryer Charlie's angel style which is a little misleading as it's not really about hair dressing but more on the beauty spa side of things. A ...  Read the complete review

Not Chris Manby's best book but still an entertaining read! (565 words)
by - written on 18/11/10 (Very useful, 23 readings)
Rating:

This was not the first Chris Manby book I have read; the first was 'Running away from Richard'. I tend to find an author I like and then follow them. I have read almost all the books that Chris Manby has written. Her books are easy to read, funny and entertaining. I actually bought this book to take on holiday with me to read at the side of the pool. Spar Wars is based on the character of Emily Brown. The book starts with Emily achieving her dream of opening her own beauty salon called the 'Beauty Spot'. The salon doesn't get off to the best start and business is slow. She turns to regular customer, Matt who works for a bank for advice and assistance in ...  Read the complete review

Spa Wars - Chris Manby: Don't upset the lady with the wax pot! (596 words)
by - written on 17/10/09 (Very useful, 63 readings)
Rating:

I had read a lot of reviews about Spa Wars and it had been on my wish list for quite some time before I finally got around to reading it. Emily Brown has her own beauty salon called "The Beauty Spot". The salon is Emily's dream but she just isn't as busy as she would like to be, that is until she is paid a late evening visit from reality TV star Carina Lees. Carina happens upon the Beauty Spot when her acrylic nail breaks and Emily fixes it for her in time for her to attend an evening of TV awards. Carina is grateful to Emily for saving the day that she gives the Beauty Spot a mention on TV the following day. Once this happens Emily and her ...  Read the complete review

Rating:

I have read a few off Chris Manby's books, and although I wouldn't describe her as one of my favourites, I have found them very enjoyable. I picked up this one as part of a 3 for £5 deal in The Works. Emily Brown has always dreamed of being a beauty therapist and has just opened her own salon, The Beauty Spot. Determined to make a success of her new business she is looking at new ways to promote her business, when by chance hot new reality TV star Carina Lees breaks an acrylic nail on the way to an award ceremony and calls on Emily's services. Suddenly business is booming, with people coming from out of town to book an appointment at Carina's favourite salon, ...  Read the complete review

Spa Wars - Chris Manby: Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the salon! (493 words)
by - written on 01/03/09, updated on  25/08/11 (Very useful, 355 readings)
Rating:

I've read quite a few of Chris Manby's novels and they are always lighthearted enjoyable reads. Spa Wars is no exception and it's the sort of book that you can read very easily in just a few days. Spa Wars tells the story of Emily Brown, a young woman who achieves her ambition of opening her own beauty salon. Things start off going very well especially when she receives a public endorsement from latest reality star, Carina Lees. It looks as though The Beauty Spot is going to be a roaring success! That is until everything starts to go wrong - the salon is burgled, gentlemen start making appointments expecting treatments very different from the ones that Emily ...  Read the complete review

The Solitude of Thomas Cave - Georgina HardingDragon Wing - Margaret Weis
Light hearted fun, good adventure and a little politics to boot
Desperately cliched, uninventive prose and storylines that go round in circles a bit.
Elven Star - Margaret Weis
Deeper characters, a subtler plot that even moved me at points. Less pointless running around.
Weis and Hickman still can't exactly turn a good phrase and this isn't exactly deep
Serpent Mage - Margaret Weis
Much better than volume three. Things happen. The plot moves. Rejoice
Not all that much happens, really all things considered. Lacking in complexity

If yo've read the first four, you're not likely to skip it.
Its simply very boring

Exciting! Fun! Thrilling! Monsters!
Flimsy plot, bad charcaterisation, you know the drill
