Trust me, lines like "I find it recornered in my nosebook that it was a dokey and winnie dave towart the end of Marge..." make a lot more sense in context. Obviously, these ditties and doodles are reminiscent of original nonsense poet Edward Lear, but the Beatle also manages to spoof Arthur Conan Doyle, columnists, letter pages and politics. After the success of 'In His Own Write', John Lennon's authorial debut, he managed a second book of nonsense poetry, offbeat prose, and twisted cartoonry - 'A Spaniard In The Works'. Thankfully he was a gifted, humorous writer, and both books contain bizarre literary gems. In 'A Spaniard...' many of the best pieces are twisted children's tales - 'The Fat Budgie' or 'The Wumberlog (Or The Magic Dog)'.
