As always the book contains lots of genuine science, including quoting the Drake equation for predicting how many planets out there may have actually developed an intelligent civilisation. This is yet another great science fiction novel from a brilliant author, in which nothing is quite how it seems. It is as much a psychological thriller as it is a science fiction thriller. A group of scientists is assembled to investigate a spacecraft found at the bottom of the pacific ocean. Inside the spaceship, they discover a hollow sphere. amazing concept, brilliantly written profoundly troublingvery uncomfortable in places.

A brilliant story, brilliantly written, brilliantly formatted, engaging, engrossing, easy to get into - hell, I just meant 'brilliant!' Marvellously surreal! None, really...Hmm, I'm trying to think - no I can't think of any! ..Okay, there are a few typos in the latter half of the book, but Mitchell claims them at the beginning as his 'own handiwork'

Poignant, erudite and realistic. Despondent, disillusioned, and pessimistic; and a bleak view of disability might not go down well.
