Stick Man - Julia Donaldson

Premium Review It's a Dangerous World out There! (749 words)
by kingfisher111 - written on 12/02/09 (Very useful, 318 readings)
Rating:

My daughters and I have enjoyed many lovely stories by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler so we were very excited to read their latest offering Stick Man . We were not disappointed at all and in fact I think this is their most enjoyable book to date. It has all the ingredients you would expect - a lovely story told through rhyme, a gentle rhythm, well chosen words and wonderful illustrations. This book was a joy to read and I know that we will be returning to it many times. At the start of the book we are introduced to our main character: Stick Man lives in the family tree With his Stick Lady Love and their stick children three. This creates such a cosy image at the ...

"Stick Man lives in the family tree With his Stick Lady Love and their stick children three." Stick Man is the eponymous hero of this newest collaboration from Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. The book follows our twiggy friend as he leaves the family tree one day to go for a jog. "Stick Man, oh Stick Man, beware of the dog!" Room on the Broom - Julia Donaldson

Premium Review The witch had a cat and a very tall hat... (1206 words)
by juicy_lucy - written on 07/04/06 (Very useful, 1496 readings)
Rating:

Have edited the original version... Having become committed Julia Donaldson fans, my daughter and I went along to a book festival where Julia Donaldson was signing books, and having already read lots of the books, we, of course, HAD to buy this one to add to her collection. The text is in Julia Donaldson s usual rhyming style which appeals to young children as they quickly become accustomed to the rhythmn and repetitive text, and can join in as you read it aloud. I have read this to my daughter and also to classes of children and a particularly popular part, which is repeated several times is "The witch tapped the broomstick and WHOOSH! they were gone". This ...
