Spot

Well the reason why I am writing this op is because I bought a spot book for my new grandson. It is “Spot helps out”. I bought it in the library for 50p Still in very good condition. Library often sells of books in fair condition worth looking to save a few pennies.

No cat for that specific spot book so I will write generally about spot.
I have been reading spot to many a child in my work I find the books just right for reading to young children’s read them and encouraged my daughter to read with them when she was young.

Spot books are written by Eric hill.
The first one published in 1980.

L
Spot books are available in a variety of forms a small hard /board book 120mmx 120mm 16 pages price £2.99, a feely book, a paper back 200ml x 195 ml 20 pages price£4.99, a larger hard back/ board book215mmx210mm 24 pages price 7.99, and a peep behind the flap book. Where’s spot? look under the flap on each page to find where he is hiding.

There are too many spot books for me to recount the tittles and subjects are good everyday incidents a child might meet, things to discover.

Spots first walk, Spot goes to school, Spots windy day and the one I bought, Spot helps out.

The books have very good simple, brightly coloured illustrations of Spot the dog and what he is doing. The text is very simple words clearly written just a few on each page Let me describe a page or two from spot helps out I have it by my side.

A picture of a tree, a bush a few flowers a few leaves, on the opposite side (facing page) A few autumn leaves on the floor, Spot standing upright with a rake

The text “ in the garden”

Another page
The head of adult dog with a smile A cat peeping from behind a cupboard (facing page) a sink /cupboard unit with a tap and steam coming from the sink unit a few dirty pans on the unit and spot drying up a plate.

Th
e text Good boy, spot! You’ve helped a lot!

The reasons why I would recommend these books?

All the children I have read then to seem to enjoy them.
Children choose to read/ look at them by themselves.
I enjoy reading them to children, both. In a group or individually
Simple, clear, bright pictures. Simple easy text that children understand and will be able to read them selves.
The contents of the book are about everyday occurrences the children are familiar with, going to school, going to the Dr, and helping at home. If your child is about to start school it would be good to read this to familiarise him/her with the situation to read about someone (Spots) experience it helps prepare children for the real event. A lot of the Spot books cover experiences any child will meet
The smaller board books great size for taking in the car, anywhere to keep child amused. The board books more durable for young children, not easily torn, chewed broken.
So overall the Spot books meet with my approval. I think they are suitable for children aged from a few months(yes you read them to them start the book habit young make it a good positive time Babies like the sound of your voice ,the attention you give them and the bright colours.)
Children aged 5,6,7 years still enjoy them being read to and reading themselves (I can read it Mum/Dad)
Thanks for reading Mary, have a good day.

Nice op. Spot books do seem to be very popular and helpful to young children.

I hope he enjoys it.
