 ... have together. The main story starts off well and I was initially charmed by the sweet story of the squirrel's preparations for his party, baking lots of cakes etc. He is an adorable character. However the story seemed to go on for a very long time, longer than children in the apparant target age group (which I assume is around 3-7 years) are likely to sit still for, and there is not much substance to keep their attention. Having had a look at the reviews on Amazon.co.uk, I'm obviously going against the grain a bit with my opinion of this book, but I just didn't enjoy it as much as the rest of those reviewers seem to have. The book is written by Toon Tellegen and illustrated by Jessica Ahlberg (daughter of the more famous illustrators and writers Allan and Janet). It contains nine stories. The first of these, The Squirrel's Birthday, goes on for 58 pages, but the other eight take up just a few pages each.
