This is, in its entirety, a silly book. It reminds me of Douglas Adams, not as well written, but along the same silly line. Unfortunately in places it seems silly just to say 'hey I'm a silly book' but other times it is genuinely entertainingly silly. Overall there is a bit of mystery, some action, a wee bit of drama and a lot of comedy. Like I've said, this is a... well you get the point. The plot is interesting, typical of many sci-fi novels, with a fish-out-of-water hero and a love intrest that male readers should enjoy. This is a rarity - a sci-fi comedy that is actually funny, and even, dare I say it, well written. The main character is an ex Army man, whose dull life in London is interupted when he gets interested in a junk mail advert for the Galactic Fax Directory, and thinking it might make a good article, goes to investigate, and finds himself transported to the outer rim of the Galaxy, where a thriving Human civilisation lives on a string of worlds orbiting a single sun. There he gets involved in a plot to overthrow a dominant corporation, and a plot about identity that will remind you all of Total Recall (and is probably meant to). The tone of the book is light, ...
