Advantages: Douglas Adams' story

Disadvantages: Terry Jones' novel

There is one reason and one reason alone why I read this book and that was because I run out of reading material whilst on holiday in the Dominican Rep. and this was one of two English books among the wealth of German literature in the so-called library, the other being a Barbara Taylor-Bradford novel, Whooppee!
The story itself was original, imaginative and funny (like most Douglas Adams creations are) but for some reason on earth he let Ex-Monty Phython star Terry Jones write it. A poor decision in my eyes.
The book reads as if Terry Jones just got up one day, was a bit bored and decided to write a novel, a very short one at that.
The story has no structure, the made-up alien language is confusing and most of all jokes are so frequently cracked that they stop being funny.
How I wish this beautiful story of a luxury starship in the distance future, doomed to failure by its money saving builders be rewritten by the only man it can be - the great Mr Douglas Adams himself.
In conclusion unless you are stuck in the same predicament that I was, then don't touch this book with a barge pole, not even if you're a Monty Phython fan, you're just be disappointed.
