Steve Wright's Further Factoids - Steve Wright ... with Further Factoids, bringing together the weirdest and most extraordinary factoids from BBC Radio 2's Steve Wright in the Afternoon. Steve Wright, one of nation's favourite DJs, is a man with a brain the size of a small planet. Unfortunately for him, this brain appears to be filled with trivia that would make Magnus Magnuson green with envy. Fortunately for us, he has decided to let his brain gush out into another hilarious, fascinating and informative compendium of strange and bizarre facts from around the world. For example, did you know that: / Worcestershire sauce is basically anchovy ketchup? / They add liquid detergent to our favourite bevvy in beer commercials to make it foam more? / Austria was the first country ever to use postcards? / Tony Blair is a distant cousin of the Queen? / A hippo can open its mouth wide enough to fit Little Ant and Dec inside? Bringing together more of the strangest and most hilarious factoids from Steve's show, he provides explanations, commentary and anecdotes to enhance this entertaining collection of hundreds of fun facts.

The pages include purple and grey ink, which is a nice touch, and also relevant photographs. Underneath the factoid is a joke or a piece of commentary, which really makes it feel like a radio transcript, but others may find irritating after a while. The jokes are not terribly funny - think Dad humour or Christmas cracker jokes - but they do get a smile. Flipping through the...more

Rating:

"Steve Wright's Further Factoids" is the sequel (more like continuation) of "Steve Wright's Factoids", which in itself is based off a popular part of Steve Wright In the Afternoon on weekdays on BBC Radio 2. Steve Wright's radio program is apparently listened to by a third of Britain (there's a fact for you!). The book, as on the radio, focuses on short, fun facts you wouldn't believe under normal circumstances - for example, on a random flip through the book, I came across this factoid: "Puppies replaced children on the Andrex adverts on advice of advertising regulators". The book is 157 pages long, with a RRP of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Unfunny humour, but good nonetheless! (528 words)

Rating:

This is another book that I received as a present for Christmas, and is another book I would put into the category of being good for a waiting room or toilet - a book you can dip in and out of every now and then, but not one you could just sit down and read! === The Author === Born in Greenwich, London in 1954, Steve Wright started his professional life as a marine insurance broker. Realising his mistake, he quickly diverted his attention to journalism and broadcasting, working as a newsman for local newspapers and radio. IN the late '70s he moved from Thames Valley radio to RTL (Radio Luxembourg), then on to BBC Radio 1 and BBC Television (where he ...  Read the complete review
