As soon as we received the Gruffulo last year as a present, we have been reading more titles from Julia Donaldson as my daughter has really taken to her rhyming style of writing. We saw Stick Man in the library so we added it to our pile. I think this week it has been the most well read book in our house. Stick Man is yes you guessed it a stick. Unlike any other stick he is about to go on a journey through the book trying to find his way home to his "family tree". The book starts when stick man leaves his tree to go for a jog, but soon gets chased by a dog. Escaping from the dog, poor stick man is accosted by a little girl wanting to play ... Having enjoyed several books by Julia Donaldson in the past my sons and I were very excited when they recieved Stick Man as a gift for their third birthday. This book sees the popular author team up with the illustrator Axel Schefler once again, the winning team that created classics such as The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom, A Squash and a Squeeze and The Snail and the Whale. This book tells the story of Stick Man, who lives happily in the family tree with his wife and children until one day tragedy strikes and whilst out for a jog he is picked up and carried off by a dog. As the story unfolds Stick Man tries his best to get home but is thwarted at every turn- ... Read the complete review

"Stick Man lives in the family tree With his Stick Lady Love and their stick children three." Stick Man is the eponymous hero of this newest collaboration from Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. The book follows our twiggy friend as he leaves the family tree one day to go for a jog. "Stick Man, oh Stick Man, beware of the dog!" Stick Man is chased and caught by a playful dog who thinks him just right to play fetch with. He plaintively protests and cries out that he is not a stick but Stick Man but his cries go unheeded. The dog's games are finally thwarted when he has to go back on his lead, Stick Man escapes ... Read the complete review

My daughters and I have enjoyed many lovely stories by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler so we were very excited to read their latest offering 'Stick Man'. We were not disappointed at all and in fact I think this is their most enjoyable book to date. It has all the ingredients you would expect - a lovely story told through rhyme, a gentle rhythm, well chosen words and wonderful illustrations. This book was a joy to read and I know that we will be returning to it many times. At the start of the book we are introduced to our main character: Stick Man lives in the family tree With his Stick Lady Love and their stick children ... Read the complete review
