The Stick Man Julia Donaldson

I bought this book for my 5 year old son at a school book fair for £5.99. It is the Hardback edition which has a RRP of 10.99
It is retailing on Amazon for £5.49 new or £4.21 Used.

Julia Donaldson alongside illustrator Axel Schiffer is probably most famous for the story of The Gruffallo which is a must for every childs collection in my opinion.

**** The Story ****

Unsurprisingly enough the story is about a Stick Man. A stick who lives in a tree with his 'Stick lady love and their family three'.One morning the stick man goes out for a jog however a dog finds him and takes him to play with and that is the beginning of the stick mans adventures. After meeting the dog the unlucky stick man meets a girl, who uses him to play pooh sticks, a swan who uses him for the nest, and a dad who uses him as a flag pole for his sand castle. He then becomes a sword for a knight, a hook for a bag, a pen, a bow, a bat,a boomerang and an arm for a snow man before being used as fire wood. Stick man becomes sad and gives up hope of finding his way home when he rescues someone who gets stuck in a chimney. Yeah, he rescues santa who then takes him back home.

**** The Layout ****

This copy is hardback and what I would call oversized (too big for the book case). It has delightful illustrations and the text follows a rhyming and repetitive pattern similar to Julia Donaldsons other book that will get the children reading along.

**** My Opinion ****

A delightful story that fast became a firm favourite bedtime read, so much so I could probably read it off by heart.Imaginative uses for sticks lead to lots of adventures and let the imagination run wild. A must have for any child who liked The Gruffallo or any child with an imagination really. Definately a five star rated book.

Summary: A must read for all children
