Stick man is another classic tale from Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. It tells of a stick who lives with his family but one day he goes out for a little run and his life take un unfortunate turn for the worse when he gets picked up by a dog. He is then dropped and picked up by a little girl who throws him into the water and swan adds him to her nest. The story continues on with poor stick man getting thrown from pillar to post when all he wants to do is return home to his family. Eventually his fate turns to good when he meets a man that is familiar to us all. Who is he I hear you ask and does stick man return home to his family? Well you'll have to read it to find out!

As with all of the Donaldson books, it is written in a rhyme from start to finish. This makes the book a real pleasure to read as each verse rolls off the tongue with ease. There are also repetitive parts that appear throughout the book so the child can learn them and join in too.

The illustrations from Scheffler are absolutely top class stuff and the character throughout the story are fun and friendly. They catch your eye and are so imaginative that you wouldn't believe this comes from an adult.

I think this story is one of the best that Donaldson and scheffler have done together. It is so full of imagination yet it's such a simple idea. It's one of those books that I find myself thinking 'Why on earth didn't I think of that' because it's so good.

Noah absolutely loved it to the point where he could quote most of the words after a few reads and although the book went back to the library today, he is still wondering around the house saying the rhymes out loud. I can't begin to imagine how many times he asked me to read it to him and I really didn't mind as it was such an enjoyable read.

I can't recommend this book highly enough as it's fun and full of character whilst having a funny and engaging storyline.

Summary: An excellent child's story
