Corazon - Joolz Denby
by lonestarsky - written on 20/05/09 (Very useful, 26 readings)
Rating:
This is the third novel I ve read by Joolz Denby and was really looking forward to it as I absolutely loved the previous two. This is actually Joolz second novel, and as the other two I read were written after it I did wonder if maybe this one wouldn t live up to her later offerings. Although I do think the later novels are slightly better, which is to be expected really, this novel did NOT disappoint and had me hooked from the first page. ++PLOT++ The story is told in first person by Alma, whose marriage has just fallen apart in spectacular style, leaving her with almost nothing except the support of her two best friends, Millie and Maz, known collectively as the Em ...

Billie Morgan - Joolz Denby
by lonestarsky - written on 03/01/09 (Very useful, 62 readings)
Rating:
for Billie s comfort and this closeness is the one thing that may cause Billie s world to fall apart again. This book is easy to read thanks to Joolz s poetic simple style of writing that brings the story vividly to life. But it isn t a pleasant read at all times, as the world of outlaw biker gangs is brought to life. This story has drugs, rape, murder, incest and severed heads but is most definitely worth a read. Its hard to remember that its just a work of fiction, such is the realism. ++CHARACTERS++ Billie is likeable and her flaws are realistic and easy to identify with. She is far from the perfect heroine yet it is easy to feel sorry for her and her predicament. ...

Borrowed Light - Joolz Denby
by lonestarsky - written on 10/12/08 (Very useful, 107 readings)
Rating:
The first book I read by Joolz Denby was "Billie Morgan," a vivid tale of an outlaw biker gang. I loved this book immensely mainly because Joolz has such an amazing ability to craft down to earth yet vivid prose. I enjoyed it so much that I went on to read "Borrowed Light" and found I enjoyed it just as much. The story is told in first person by Astra, who lives in the village of Polwenna in Cornwall with her parents and three younger siblings. The family are originally from Bradford, and Astra feels herself to be Bradford through and through, however they moved to Polwenna when Astra was young as her ageing hippie parents want to live a simple life ...
