Usborne Stories for Bedtime.......
I have to say I do read Jack at least one story every night before bed and most of the time if they are short stories I tend to read a couple. I was running out of stories to read to him and instead of starting the ones I had previously read, I decided to go out and buy a new book and this is the one I chose.
I bought the book from Waterstone's for £12.99p although I am sure you can get it cheaper elsewhere. The book is a hardback one with 192 pages and is rather heavy. This book is certainly one where the child gets the stories read to them rather than reading them themselves.
Inside the book there are 34 different stories and each are of a good length that are perfect for bedtimes. It says that the stories have been specially done with the thought of reading aloud at bedtime in mind and you really do get that feel when reading them. The individual stories inside the book are usually about 4 pages long but the pages are covered in brilliant illustrations that are classic Usborne style and very appealing.
Some of the stories in the book are old classics that perhaps have been adapted slightly such as "The Nightingale" and "Princess and The Pea" but others included in the book are new, fresh and very enjoyable to read. The stories centre around Fairies, Kings and Queens, Leprechauns and really all the things that you would want from a children's book to make the joy of reading even more magical.
This book, for me, was a complete bargain. I have enjoyed reading the stories over and over again and have still not tired of it. Of course Jack loves being read his bedtime stories but even when he has fallen asleep listening I will still carry on reading just so I can finish the story myself. I have become rather good at putting on character voices for each story and enjoy myself more each time I read this book.
I would think anyone with children of the age where a bedtime story is read would enjoy this book. I love what Usborne have done with this book and it certainly is the top one of our collection. I am awarding a brilliant score of 5 stars and giving an EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH RECOMMENDATION.
I hope this has been of some help to you. Thanks for taking the time to read.
Summary: a brilliant book for child and parent
