had not heard of Colm Toibin, and given his absence from the DooYoo books and magazines section, I gather that not many of you had heard of him either. But his first and second novels, The South and The Heather Blazing both won awards and this book, The Story of the Night has been praised to high heaven by Roddy Doyle, one of my all time favourite authors. So who is this Toibin, chappy? Well he is Irish, in his late forties, resides in Dublin and continues to write mainly non-fiction work. Now this book is a bit squeamish in places (you will see why) and deals with a very difficult subject matter in a distinctly graphic way, some people will not be able to read ...
