Straight Life Art & Laurie Pepper. Straight Life, the title of this book is also the title of one of Art Pepper's most famous compositions. Art Pepper, for those that are not fans, was arguably the greatest alto saxophonist ever. As fast as Charlie Parker, but unlike CP, not restricted to the be bop style of playing. He experimented with modal music (like Coltrane), he played Latin, swing, but ultimately his talents lied in jazz, in particular, strong solos in ballads; his passion and 'heart' unrivalled in my opinion.
