The illustrations in this book are fantastic and all of the characters are very cartoon-like and funny. The pictures take up the whole page and are very colourful and engaging for young children. The text is easy to read but does end up all over the place on some pages which could be hard to follow for some adult readers. This story is written by Jane Clarke and illustrated by Garry Parsons and it tells of a mother who has lost one of her ten chicks. She eventually finds it stuck in some mud in the middle of the farmyard. Being the caring mother she is, she jumps right in to try and pull the chick out but gets stuck herself. After nearly all of the farm yard animals and the farmer himself try to get the chick out of the mud, the small chick informs them all that he wasn't actually stuck and jumps right out leaving all of the other animals in a bit of a pickle!
