This story is written by Jane Clarke and illustrated by Garry Parsons and it tells of a mother who has lost one of her ten chicks. She eventually finds it stuck in some mud in the middle of the farmyard. Being the caring mother she is, she jumps right in to try and pull the chick out but gets stuck herself. After nearly all of the farm yard animals and the farmer himself try to get the chick out of the mud, the small chick informs them all that he wasn't actually stuck and jumps right out leaving all of the other animals in a bit of a pickle!

The illustrations in this book are fantastic and all of the characters are very cartoon-like and funny. The pictures take up the whole page and are very colourful and engaging for young children.

The text is easy to read but does end up all over the place on some pages which could be hard to follow for some adult readers. There is one particular line that is repeated on each page which Noah enjoyed joining in with. It all rhymes which makes it roll off the tongue and flow very well.

This story is just plain silly and it although there is the factor of friends helping friends, there is no real story to it. It's just a very funny read that you can share a laugh and giggle over which I find is always very nice.

Noah enjoyed the story and really 'got' the humour which warmed my heart. He enjoyed being able to recognize the animals and was able to tell me all of the noises they each one made.

I would highly recommend this book because it's fun and promotes a lot of laughter which is always good for the soul!

Summary: A really good read
