Sudden Death by Michael Balkind (this review is for the Kindle version)
Brief Plot Description:
Reid Clark is about to take part in one of golf's most famous tournaments but he keeps receiving death threats. All of these threats say that if he wins the competition he will die. Not one to be easily scared he hires a group of bodyguards along with a Private Investigator to get to the bottom of who is behind the threats.
The plot is very simple, easy to follow and direct with no twists and turns. To be honest nothing really thrilling happens. I always try to find some good in everything and I suppose if you like golf you may find aspects of this book interesting. The reviews that I read before downloading stated that you didn't have to be a fan of golf to enjoy this book. I would have to disagree, I didn't mind the bits of golf jargon etc but some of it I didn't understand as I don't follow the game myself.
I did continue reading as I was curious as to who was sending the death threats and I always hate to leave a book half read. The plot only really started to pick up around the last quarter of the book and even the ending seemed rushed especially the big reveal as to who was behind the threats.
The main character Reid Clark isn't very likeable he is rude, arrogant and throws his money at everyone. Especially his family so he can make up for not being with them enough and for his behaviour. However as the story progresses Reid did grow on me slightly as he tried to improve himself and become a better person.
A love interest was introduced for Reid just after half way through the story, I felt this character was introduced too late to make any impact on the story. I didn't really find her likeable she happily took any money he wanted to spend on her. Reid instantly fell in love with her before he had even got to know her just because she was beautiful. It felt quite a rushed and forced relationship and I think the author could have made a better job of it.
There are quite a few characters in this book which help to improve the story as it means there are a higher number of suspects. Therefore there is a little bit of mystery over who is sending the death threats to Reid.

For a free book this is an ok read but I have downloaded other free books and they had a lot more content and plot. The plot was simple and it could have been a lot better, there wasn't much suspense and I found the ending a little disappointing especially as I had the patience to continue reading it. Perhaps a person with a basic knowledge of golf may enjoy it more so they could at least get into the story when he is taking part in the tournament. I'm afraid to say it's not a hit for me!
