Advantages: A fantastic story of overcoming one's circumstances.
Liberty Jones moved onto the trailer park with her Mum when she was 14 and ¾ years old, that was when her life changed forever......that was when she fell in love!
Liberty has loved Hardy (who is 17 at the time of meeting) from the second she saw him, and has an inkling that he feels the same, but true love or family are not going to stand in Hardy's way of getting out of the trailer park, and him finding his fortune.
After Liberty is not only left heartbroken, she also left orphaned and decides that she will have to hit the big city, an find employment to help sustain not only herself, but her baby sister and now ward Carrington.
Will she manage alone, or will (as the book title suggests) she get some outside help?
I have to say this book really wasn't what I was expecting, and I am ashamed to say this is in part due to the title of the book, I was expecting something a bit different!
I loved the character of Liberty (from whose standpoint the story is told from). A half America, half Mexican child she has known prejudice from an early age, but was lucky enough to have a very loving mother who has tried her hardest to protect her, the same goes for the current situation, with money being sparse, Liberty is never completely privy to how or who her mother gets money from, though this does get revealed towards the end of the book.
The love story between Hardy and Liberty is fantastic too, with it starting as an innocent childish crush, though as the years progress so does their love and feelings, which (with this being a love story of sorts, so unsurprisingly) means this love is the sort that lasts a lifetime!
This story is predominantly a story of survival, Liberty not only surviving her humble beginnings and losing her father at a really young age, but also how she takes life on and survives the loss of her mother, leaving her in effect mother to her baby sister, a terrible thing to happen when Liberty is only 19 years old.
The story is told with plenty of emotion, making you really feel a deep affinity with the characters, (I was literally willing Liberty to drag herself from poverty), making this a much more believable story to read, and much more satisfying when it goes the way you hope (though extremely infuriating when it doesn't!).
Price wise this has a RRP of £7.99, but is available for less via www.amazon.co.uk.
This was a really good read, that was only topped by the fact there is also another book that chronicles the life of Liberty's love interest Hardy, this is called "the blue eyed devil", and is definitely on my to read list!
Thanks for reading x
Summary: A fantastic book.
