... the amount of years that went past and their lives were still rapidly developing made me realise that 15 really isn't old! This book is different I have to say, you will never find another book like it. Each character is based on your cliche characters but developed into something else and each of them has their own story. Lokko mixed in some polictics with this and it really does make the book stand out. I am crazy about this book and have read it several times despite the fact that it is a LONG book and does get te...more

Premium Review Sundowners - Lesley Lokko: This is an amazing one! (335 words)

I was lent this book by a friend and now Lesley Lokko is actually on of my favourite authors! Her books will certainly get mistakened for chick lit but they really are so much more than that! Sundowners is an amazing book and takes you through the lives of four teenage girls. I think the thing that this book made me realise was that I have more whole life ahead of me. I started to read this book without any real expectations. But once I started to get to know the characters, I found that I couldn't put it down and Lesley Lokko has fast become one of my favourie authors - I read all of her new releases with the same enthusiam I read this with. Not only does it deal with politics, culture and history (especially with regards to apartheid in South Africa and the situation in Palestine which is mentioned briefly), but it combines this with characters who I felt I could really identify with. Gabby, Nathalie, Charmaine and Rianne really got into my heart, and I found myself praying for Rianne and Riitho to have a happy ...  Read the complete review
