*The book*
Like many of the books the author has written it takes place in Liverpool around the time of a war-in this case the first world war.The books main character is called Daisy Kildare and throughout the book we hear of the hardships she and her family has to face.
At the start of the book Daisy and her family live together in a run down cottage on the Connemara coast. Even though they are really poor they are happy. All this changes however when a long lost relative turns up and claims that the cottage belongs to him and they have to move out.Unfortunately the family cannot stay together so they all get separated - Daisy has to go and live with her aunt Jane (who is a housekeeper) and keep her employers niece company as she is an orphan .
As you can imagine Daisy doesn't like it,for one thing she misses her family dreadfully but she puts up with it,even sending her "allowance" back home so they can save up and be together once more.
After a few years of this(the book skips ahead) the family find out there is a possibility that the distant relative isn't what he seems ,basically he has been telling porkies and the home they left behind really belongs to them. For them to prove it however they must go to America where tragedy strikes....
I would say that this is a really good book, there are loads of good twists to it ( i haven't mentioned them all),some romance .... I also really like the author and i would recommend all her other books.
Summary: worth reading
