Dream a Little Dream - Joan Jonker
by kiwiii85 - written on 19/01/09 (Very useful, 102 readings)
Rating:
I m a fan of quite emotional books, not so much they depress me, but to think someones gone for a sad life to an improved one. Joan Jonker s books were always full of emotion whether it be laughter, tears or a bit of both. ~~The Plot~~ Robert (Bob) Dennison and Edie Brady both grew up on the same street which consisted of two up, two down houses in Liverpool. They were quite poor and both families always struggled to make ends meet. This is when Bob got his first break and ended up with his own delivery business. This, in turn, has turned Edie, or Edwina as she now prefers, to become a first class snob who refuses to acknowledge where she s from. They have three ...

When One Door Closes - Joan Jonker
by kiwiii85 - written on 29/01/09 (Very useful, 109 readings)
Rating:
humour around, Mary is soon on the right steps. Once again, she makes a bad decision, is it the end? My Opinion ~~~~~~~~~~ I ve read many of Joan Jonker s books before i found this one and i have to say it isn t as good as the rest. This one seems to have a more depressing storyline and it isn t quite hidden with the humour like her usual books. The characters are all very strong and the storyline does have some major twists that you don t see coming, but then a lot of it is very predictable. Mary is obviously the main character in the book and her main downfall is love. The man of her dreams, Bob, is a soldier and is sent off to war. He only has fleeting visits home ...

Sadie Was a Lady - Joan Jonker
by kiwiii85 - written on 20/01/09 (Very useful, 122 readings)
Rating:
Sadie was a lady is another of Joan Jonker s books that you won t want to put down until you ve finished. ~~The Plot~~ Sadie is from a rather poor family with a mother and father that look after their own needs, rather then their 6 childrens. She walks around in raggy clothes and only possesses one dress and one pair of shoes that could really do with being replaced. She hates her life, has no money and nothing decent to look forward to even though she goes out to work everyday. The last straw for Sadie is when her mother tells her she s getting no money this week as her father has bet it all on the horses. Harry, Sadie s neighbour, finds her crying outside and offers ...
