Advantages: A great read for a long journey
Disadvantages: A little predictable
For any Lyn Andrews fans out there, this book is great. The books starts the story in 1916, two years into the first world war. Hannah Peckham, the character the book is based on, is six and her Dad is going off to war. I won't give too much of the story line away but she ends up in a workhouse in Wales until she is sixteen and then she moves to Liverpool to work in service for a posh family. The story carries on to see her fall in love with someone she can't have, then marry on the rebound and have a daughter. To say anymore would spoil the plot and ruin a good read. I have found that in some of Lyn Andrews previous books, she goes into great detail about the plot and keeps you updated all the way through, and then it dies nearer the end. This particular book is sort of predictable but it's nice because you think you know what is going to happen and it's not so much of a shock when it does....or doesn't.

- 21/01/01 Sounds like the sort of book I would like. I love Katie Flynn's books and these sound similar. |
